If you live in many parts of the Waikato we can help!
We know it’s tough out there so New Lives have partnered with four veterinary clinics across the Waikato to offer subsidised desexing for people living in the following district council boundaries:
Hauraki (e.g. Paeroa, Ngatea, and Te Aroha), Waikato (e.g. Huntly and Ngāruawāhia), Matamata-Piako (e.g. Matamata and Morrinsville), Waipa (e.g. Cambridge and Te Awamutu), Ōtorohanga, and Hamilton.
Cat desexing is available at all four clinics, and dog desexing is available at the Matamata and Te Aroha clinics for people living in the Hauraki and Matamata-Piako district council boundaries.
You contribute $60 towards having your cat desexed, or $110 towards having your dog desexed, and we'll take care of the rest of the bill at one of our participating veterinary clinics.
As well as being desexed, your pet will be microchipped and registered on the New Zealand Companion Animal Register for you.
This is a high trust model with no requirement to show a community services card but we do expect people to only purchase vouchers if they truly need them.
Funding is limited so if you are able to afford to have your pet desexed without a hand up, please leave the vouchers for those who are genuinely struggling. To ensure the financial sustainability of the scheme, there is a limit of four cats and two dogs per household.
If you are having issues purchasing a voucher, please email desexing@newlivesrescue.co.nz for help.
No, the veterinary clinics currently participating in this scheme are CareVets Horsham Downs, CareVets Hamilton South, Kaimai Vets Matamata, and Kaimai Vets Te Aroha.
These are clinics who align with our morals, believe in what we do, and are able to offer New Lives excellent contract pricing.
If you're a team member at a clinic who'd like to participate in this scheme, please feel free to reach out!
Yes, the voucher system is designed to automated as much as possible. It's triggered by your card payment, and requiring payment up front has meant a decrease in the number of people not attending their appointments.

Not yet, but it's something that we're working on.
No. The voucher price is the same for everybody. If your pet is already microchipped, it simply reduces the amount that New Lives has to pay by $15.
The voucher system is built to be as hands off as possible for our team. If you're really struggling, please feel free to reach out via email.
