We know it’s tough out there so New Lives have partnered with CareVets Hamilton South and CareVets Horsham Downs in Hamilton to provide subsidised desexing for cats, as well as 3 Stone Vets in Te Awamutu to offer subsidised desexing for cats and dogs.
You purchase a voucher from our website, and we'll cover the bill at one of our participating veterinary clinics to have your pet desexed, microchipped and registered on the New Zealand Companion Animal Register!

You'll need to check your eligibility on this website. If you're eligible, you'll be able to purchase a voucher to be used at one of our participating veterinary clinics. You only pay for the voucher and we pay the veterinary clinic bill directly.
Vouchers cost $60 for a cat, and $110 for a dog. Your voucher covers desexing, microchip implantation and registration on the New Zealand Companion Animal Register.
The voucher system for cats is automatic, the voucher system for dogs is manual and there may be a wait of a couple of days depending on when you apply.
Your cat can be desexed at any of our participating veterinary clinics (CareVets Hamilton South, CareVets Horsham Downs, or 3 Stone Vets) whereas dogs are only desexed at 3 Stone Vets.
This is a high trust model with no requirement to show a community services card but we do expect people to only purchase vouchers if they truly need them.
Funding is limited so if you are able to afford to have your pet desexed without a hand up, please leave the vouchers for those who are genuinely struggling.

For cats, you must live in the following district council boundaries: Waikato (e.g. Huntly and Ngāruawāhia), Waipa (e.g. Te Awamutu, Cambridge, Kihikihi, Pirongia, Ōhaupō), Ōtorohanga, and Hamilton.
For dogs, you must live in: Te Awamutu, Kihikihi, Pirongia, Ōtorohanga or Ōhaupō
We're unable to provide subsidies for pets living outside of these areas.
No, the veterinary clinics currently participating in this scheme are CareVets Horsham Downs, CareVets Hamilton South, and 3 Stone Vets.
These are clinics who align with our morals, believe in what we do, and are able to offer New Lives excellent contract pricing.

Yes, the voucher system is designed to automated as much as possible. It's triggered by your card payment, and requiring payment up front has meant a decrease in the number of people not attending their appointments.

Yes, having a microchip implanted and being registered on the New Zealand Companion Animal Register is a non-negotiable.
No. The voucher price is the same for everybody. If your pet is already microchipped, it simply reduces the amount that New Lives has to pay by $15.
